Ensemble has launched a dedicated in-store segment for Payal Singhal’s new collection as an exclusive destination for Mumbai’s shoppers to see the collection in person, the brand announced on Facebook. The bright, bohemian-style collection mixes jewel tones with crafty details for an eclectic look. Kalidar Shararas in rich hues, embellished lehengas, floaty kaftans, and fusion-style co-ord sets make up a tropical, playful, and feminine collection for the spring/summer 2022 season.

“Transcendent of geographical and intellectual boundaries, our Spring/Summer 2022 collection ‘Folklore’ is a vibrant ode to native storytelling in all its myriad forms– borrowed from a time when fables were passed down through generations by word of mouth, folk tales, joyful ditties and beautiful paintings,” wrote Singhal about the collection on her brand’s Facebook page.
“Otomi embroidery from Mexico mingles with kantha of Bengal, kashida of Kashmir and phulkari of Punjabi, culminating in an amalgamation that is truly cross-cultural,” wrote Singhal. “The PS Prints are steeped in folk history too- one inspired by gond art but with a geometric bent, and another is our take on a pictorial depiction of a folk tale, set in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh, similar to how stories were embroidered on quilts and fabrics in the past.”

The collection is also designed to be “fluid and genderless,” according to the designer, who showcased this fluidity in the collection’s new campaign which features androgynous aesthetics. Singhal was inspired by states across India for the textiles and craft techniques used in the collection as well as from her own brand archives, namely the brand’s 'India in Colour' collection from 2009.
